Denzil had a deep affinity for British culture and British comedy in particular. He admired, borrowed from and occasionally even mimiced the popular English music hall comedians — Tommy Trinder, Max Miller, George Formby et al.
In his 60s, as the prospect of retirement from full-time work became closer, the ever-creative Denzil began to explore new avenues within the profession he loved.
One of his creations was “Tommy Edwards”, a stand-up comic and raconteur of somewhat blue material. Denzil had a good memory for gags and had collected many over the years which he pressed into service for promotional tapes by “Tommy” which were circulated via his theatrical agent. Whether “Tommy” ever received any bookings is unknown.
Tapes of “Tommy’s” routines survive in Denzil’s collection.
