Prior to the launch of AMV4 Albury in 1964, Denzil had been working for months, selecting program material and formulating ideas for local productions. He established a daily childrens’ programme, “The Cohns Cobbers Teleclub”, modelled after the successful “Tarax Show” he had created at GTV9. (Cohns, like Tarax, was a soft drink brand.)
Many of the ideas from the Tarax Show were transplanted, including this regular comedy sketch about classroom antics. The AMV4 regulars plus other local amateur thespians were recruited to perform.
Videotape was still too expensive for country television, so all local programming was transmitted “live” (and thus never captured for posterity).
Seen here is Denzil on the left with hand in the air. Next to him are Bernie Harper, Ken Palethorpe and Alan Frost. The “teacher” is Ross Sellars, an AMV4 on-air personality who went on to a management role in the Nine Network.
