In Melbourne Tonight, the iconic nightly television variety show hosted by Graham Kennedy, made its debut on GTV9 in 1957. In the early 1960s, Denzil was one of the team of comedy writers responsible for coming up with a regular flow of fresh comedy sketches for the resident cast.
Denzil created the character of Brigadier Brendan Fortescue, a blustering British military type who made regular appearances on the “Voice of the People” segment in which a panel of bogus “experts” would make humorous comments on topics of the day.
