Denzil joined 3YB Warrnambool in 1944-45 after leaving the Army. The station was part of the Argus Radio Network, an offshoot of the Melbourne Argus newspaper.
During his four years at 3YB Denzil applied his skill and enthusiasm to a diverse range of tasks — he worked as an announcer, created local variety programmes and wrote and produced radio drama. (The skills learned in radio proved useful ten years later when he was producing live drama and entertainment for the brand new medium of television.)
In this photo of the “new” 3YB studio in the T&G building, Denzil is standing at the microphone with script in hand. Note the formality of attire for a non-visual medium! At the piano is Denzil’s colleague Terry Howard.
